Sharing a spliff with Jesus

June 21st 2008 14:42
A very funny video from the old Lawrence Welk Show of the lovely down-home couple, Gail Farrell from Oklahoma and Dick Dale from Iowa. A very clean cut pair singing about getting 'One toke over the line'. They thought it was a gospel song and not about sharing a spliff with Jesus?

This song is about drugs, especially marijuana. A "Toke" is a puff from a marijuana cigarette or pipe. This got it banned from many radio stations.
Mike Brewer and Tom Shipley were Folk singers in Los Angeles. and this was their only hit.
Brewer and Shipley were playing this at a party, making up the words as they went along and letting anyone else sing along, when an executive from their record company heard it and insisted they release it as their next single. Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead was brought in as a session musician and played steel guitar on this.

This appears on numerous compilation albums, making its way onto albums with songs about drugs, hits of the '70s, and one hit wonders. It remains a major source of income for Brewer and Shipley.

And then onto the lovely Dick and Gail singing it as wholesomely as if they were singing about home-baked bread.

It's good for a giggle...especially if you ARE one toke over the line.

Robot Chicken

November 15th 2006 00:55
Robot Chicken is an American stop motion animated television series created by Stoop!d Monkey and Sony Pictures Digital, currently airing in America as a part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim lineup, in Britain, the Bravo's Adult Swim lineup, and in Canada on Teletoon's Detour nightly adult programming. Seth Green and Matthew Senreich are the creators and executive producers of the show. They are also on the writing team, provide the majority of voices, and have even directed a few episodes.

Robot Chicken is a variety show that parodies a number of pop culture conventions using stop motion animation of toys, action figures, dolls, and claymation and various other objects, such as tongue depressers. The show's name was inspired by a dish on the menu at a Chinese restaurant where Green and Senreich had dined.

Here is a popular clip from Robot Chicken, it parodies Star Wars.

Voltron was a great cartoon, and this is a great parody!

This last clip has Ted Turner as CAPTAIN PLANET!!

Unnecessary Censorship

November 14th 2006 04:29
On Fridays during Jimmy Kimmel Live there is a segment called This Week in Unnecessary Censorship, a parody on the FCC's censorship rules, where TV clips are unnecessarily bleeped and blurred. Clips from news or events during the week will have a nominally inoffensive word or phrase bleeped and the mouths blurred in a way that makes it sound/look like the person in the clip had issued a profanity. Another similar obfuscation makes a wave to a crowd look like an inappropriate gesture, or blurring areas in where private parts are as if they were exposing themselves or nude.

The clips below give a couple of examples of what the segment is about
