The real Olympic gold - REMI GAILLARD

August 23rd 2008 05:56
He's at it again. Remi Gaillard is a French prankster . He gained a certain amount of attention in the French media after performing a well-documented series of pranks, including a famous appearance disguised as a Lorient football player in the 2002 Coupe de France final match where he would eventually take part on the celebrations and even greet the then president of France Jacques Chirac. So far Gaillard has appeared in several sport events, TV game shows and even political rallies, normally breaking the security measures easily.

This time, he is taking his Olympic gymnastic routine to the streets to a mixed response from the public. Personally, if someone did this on my bus or train I would applaud like a crazy person. I mean, a man with that physique wearing a leotard is worth applause in itself.

Freestyle Soccer / Football

November 7th 2006 00:12
Freestyle football is the art of juggling with a football using feet, knees, chest, shoulders, and head while simultaneously performing creative, skillful moves and keeping the ball airborne.

Early this century, Nike began an advertising campaign which relied heavily on the freestyle form of football, including video clips of freestyle performances. People were able to see famous players such as Ronaldinho and Edgar Davids play displaying their technical skills. Many link such mass media attention to the start of the freestyle craze.

Freestyling Tricks:

• One well-known move is known as the "Maradona 7", in which the player must play the ball with the right foot, then the left foot, then the right thigh, then the left thigh, then the right shoulder, then the left shoulder, and finally the head.

• "Around the World" is also popular; in this move, the player plays the ball off of one foot, and that foot then circles up and over the ball before returning underneath to play the ball again.

• "Stall" moves involve catching the ball in a stationary position. Many freestylers are able to catch the ball on their foreheads, the backs of their necks, or wedged between their heel and the back of their thigh.

Firstly here is the Brazilian one man show - Ronaldinho freestyle!

Cheerleading Mishaps

November 2nd 2006 06:59
Cheerleading is an athletic activity that uses organized routines made up of elements from dance, gymnastics, and stunting to cheer on sports teams at games and matches, and/or as a competitive sport. A cheerleading performer is called a cheerleader. It is most common in North America, but has spread elsewhere.

Of course, the sort of routines cheerleaders try to perform can often lead to accidents, as the clip below demonstrates.

Referees

September 26th 2006 05:57
We don't often associate referees or umpires with funny videos, but below are a few reasons why we should!

This popular clip called "Gay Ref" has been doing the rounds on the net for a while now.

Here are some refs copping what they probably don't deserve, from the players and the crowd.

This Budweiser commercial shows how Referees are trained to deal with abuse.

Stretcher Bearers

September 20th 2006 05:49
Stretchers have been used since antiquity, especially on battlefields and in emergency situations.
Therefore you would think that by now we would have figured out how to carry them, but as the clips below demonstrate, we still have a lot to learn.

Soccer

This clip shows what happens when things don't go according to plan on soccer fields around the world. You'll see stuff ups from star players and referees, plus other unexpected and unfortunate evens, all to the soundtrack of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by the Monty Python crew.

Hot Dog Eating World Record

July 10th 2006 03:10
According to oral history, in 1916, four immigrants had a Nathan's hot dog eating contest at the site of the first Nathan's Famous stand to settle an argument about who was the most patriotic, though it may have been a publicity stunt. After 12 minutes, Irish-born Jim Mullen had eaten 13 hot dogs and the other three contestants could not go on. Ever since, a 12-minute contest has been held every year on July 4, Independence Day at the site of Nathan's Famous's first restaurant. This year Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi from Japan won the competition for the 5th time in a row setting a new world record of 53 3/4 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Below is a video clip showing him taking the record.
