How perceptive are you really?

November 3rd 2008 06:12
This was a visual attention experiment conducted by Becklen and Cervone in 1983 to show that the human mind has its limits. Now make sure you watch the video closely. The human brain is an amazing thing but there is only so much the brain can process at a particular time. Now make sure you pay attention.

Hi David, always happy to make someone giggle

Hey Morgan, it's amazing what you miss isn't it? I love this stuff!

Cheryl

I was so busy watching the ball passes that I had to watch the repeats to see the lady with the umbrella.

It reminds me of a "management course trick" they used to do to highlight this very point.

You were asked to take off your watch. After doing so you were asked to descibe it. Do you know how difficult that is? If you are looking at something so many times a day, do you really compehend the detail?

I often walk past construction sites in my own area and wonder "what used to be there" even though I have walked passed it thousands of times. And I think I am reasonably observant.

I saw the girl with umbrella, but I missed some passes apparently. I only came up with 16. I think it was the passes they made to the white shirts that messed me up.

Hi Janet, I honestly couldn't describe what I was wearing most days if I had to close my eyes. I'm really good at those spot the difference puzzles but this is distraction which makes it a whole new ball game. Pardon the pun!

Hey Gene, you did well! I wasn't quite so observant

OMG, Cheryl. I thought that woman is a ghost lol

Honestly, when I looked on this video clip, it reminds me of the Michael Jackson's song, "Its black, its white, it's going to drive me crazy! lol"
